Carole Mae McCarty, 76, of Pendleton, Ore., and formerly of the Big Island, died Dec. 2 in Oregon. Born in Pendleton, she was a teacher/artist/weaver and illustrator of children’s books. Survived by husband, Harrell McCarty; son, Morgwn (Annetta) McCarty of Redwood City, Calif.; sister, Kay Nation of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
Dean Wesley Ponggan, 66, of Hilo died Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kohala and retired as a truck driver for HPM.
